WRITING ALIVE
Hi kids, Over the past few weeks we have learned about descriptive writing. We hope you enjoyed the activities and learned something new. RECAP: Last time we learned about how to use the five senses to write descriptions better. Good descriptive writing includes many details that paint a picture for your readers. That is why incorporating details of all the five sense such as sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste is important. This week let’s take a look at ‘showing’ and ‘telling’ sentences.
A TELLING SENTENCE:
The wind was cold.
Telling sentences have linking verbs followed by an adjective. We have questions in our mind like, what kind of place is this or why is it cold?
A SHOWING SENTENCE:
The cool breeze on a hot sunny day suddenly woke me up. A showing sentence uses action verbs to demonstrate the adjectives and helps build an idea in our minds.
