Take a look at the paragraph below from Roald Dahl’s classic The Twits. Take a green marker and underline the ‘telling’ sentences with no descriptions Take a red marker to underline the ‘showing’ sentences with descriptions. How many of each did you find?

Mr. and Mrs. Twit are the smelliest, nastiest, ugliest people in the world. They hate everything - except playing mean jokes on each other, catching innocent birds to put in their bird pies, and making their caged monkeys, the Muggle -Wumps, stand on their heads all day.
