Beruwala heroin haul: Boat owner arrested

Police yesterday arrested 44-year-old Dulip Samantha, the owner of the boat, which was alleged to have been used to transfer 231.5 kilograms of heroin off the coast of Beruwala.

They said he was a resident of Beruwala. The suspect had attempted to escape by jumping into the Kelani River when police personnel were after him.

Police said he had in his possession, Rs.1.5 mn in cash at the time of his arrest.

They said the suspect is the brother of one of the two suspects arrested on Wednesday night.

231.5 kilograms of heroin valued at more than Rs.2,778 million, the second largest haul of heroin was seized by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officials in the seas off Beruwala on Wednesday night.
