Security beefed up in Colombo, around SC

1,500 police personnel deployed

Security has been beefed up in and around the Colombo city especially around the Supreme Court complex in Hulftsdorp in view of the political importance of the case involving the dissolution of Parliament that is being heard these days in the Supreme Court.

A spokesman from the Police Headquarters said that more than 1,500 police personnel including those from outstation police stations and STF personnel had been deployed in this special security blanket.

Four police dogs trained in finding explosives have also been deployed in the premises of the Supreme Court which is being thoroughly searched from 6 am to 9 am everyday since the day the hearing of the petitions started.

He stated that tight security would be maintained until the judgement of the hearing on the petitions against the dissolution of Parliament by the President is delivered.
