Se­cu­rity beefed up in Colombo, around SC

1,500 po­lice per­son­nel de­ployed

Se­cu­rity has been beefed up in and around the Colombo city es­pe­cially around the Supreme Court com­plex in Hulfts­dorp in view of the po­lit­i­cal im­por­tance of the case in­volv­ing the dis­so­lu­tion of Par­lia­ment that is be­ing heard these days in the Supreme Court.

A spokesman from the Po­lice Head­quar­ters said that more than 1,500 po­lice per­son­nel in­clud­ing those from out­sta­tion po­lice sta­tions and STF per­son­nel had been de­ployed in this spe­cial se­cu­rity blan­ket.

Four po­lice dogs trained in finding ex­plo­sives have also been de­ployed in the premises of the Supreme Court which is be­ing thor­oughly searched from 6 am to 9 am ev­ery­day since the day the hear­ing of the pe­ti­tions started.

He stated that tight se­cu­rity would be main­tained un­til the judgement of the hear­ing on the pe­ti­tions against the dis­so­lu­tion of Par­lia­ment by the Pres­i­dent is de­liv­ered.
