Vijeyakala’s case fixed for Feb 22.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna yesterday postponed for February 22 the case in which MP Vijeyakala Maheswaran is charged with making statements supportive of the LTTE at a meeting held in Jaffna. The Organized Crime Investigat­ion Bureau informed Court that the bureau had sought the Attorney General’s advice on this matter.

It was reported that State Minister of Child Affairs Vijeyakala Maheswaran had said at a State function held in Jaffna that there was a huge need of reorganiza­tion of the LTTE in the North and East

July 03, 2018: State Minister of Child Affairs Vijeyakala Maheswaran said she had not made any statement with the intention of bringing the LTTE back to life and said that it was a slip of the tongue.

July 03: UNP back benchers urged the party leadership to suspend State Minister Vijeyakala Maheswaran from her portfolio and suspend her from the party.

July 05: State Minister Vijeyakala Maheswaran tendered her resignatio­n letter.

Senior Counsel K.V. Thavarasa, instructed by Gowry Sangari Thavarasa, appeared for Ms. Maheswaran.
