An invigilator and an external candidate sitting the GCE ordinary level examination were arrested at the Jailani Central College in Balangoda on charges of using a mobile phone to answer the English question paper, Police said.

They said investigations revealed that the invigilator, who was on duty at another exam centre had SMSED the answers to the candidate’s phone.

The arrests were made on a complaint made to the Balangoda Police by the Balangoda Zonal Education Director P.g.ariyapala after the hall supervisor had brought this matter to his attention. The student had revealed the details of the scam when being questioned by the police. The Balangoda Police are conducting investigations.

Mr Ariyapala said action would be taken by the Examinations Department after the Police complete their investigations. He said the suspect was an advance level student re-sitting the ordinary level examination.
