Dismissing the claims made by former MP Vinyagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman that Pottu Amman is still alive, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka told journalists on Thursday that Pottu Amman was killed during the final stages of the war.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, who was the army commander during the final stages of the war said LTTE strongman Pottu Amman killed himself by exploding a bomb when his escape attempt was foiled.

“What Karuna Amman said about Pottu Amman is not correct because the latter was definitely killed. Even the body of Pottu Amman’s wife was discovered after the war,” the Field Marshal said and added that this had been confirmed by Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) as well. “Karuna Amman was never involved in the war against the LTTE after he defected but was only taken to the North to identify the bodies of LTTE leaders at Nandikadal,” he said.
