Man charged with killing drunken father

A man who allegedly hacked his father to death had been arrested by the Dodangoda Police after he surrendere­d.

The deceased, Thotage Jayantha (49) was a resident of Bulugahago­da in Bombuwala off Kalutara.

Investigat­ions had revealed that the young man had assaulted his father, who returned home drunk and attempted to harm his mother.

The suspect stated that he was married and lived separately and that his sister had called him saying their father was attempting to kill their mother. He said he had rushed to the scene to find his father attempting to assault his mother with an axe.

He said he wrestled the axe from him and assaulted him.
