Sabaraga­muwa PC launches ma­jor tourism drive

The Sabaraga­muwa Pro­vin­cial Coun­cil had launched a pro­gramme with the help of the Sabaraga­muwa Univer­sity, Pro­vin­cial Tourism Min­istry and lo­cal and for­eign travel agents, Sec­re­tary to the Pro­vin­cial Min­istry of Tourism Chamara Ba­munuarachchi said.

The gem in­dus­try in the Rat­na­pura Dis­trict, Udawalawa Sanc­tu­ary, Wavul­pane Lime Stone Caves with an un­der­ground stream, the ex­ist­ing tourist zones in Beli­hul Oya and Ki­t­ul­gala, Pin­nawala Ele­phant Or­phan­age, De­hi­wela Zo­o­log­i­cal Gar­dens the tra­di­tional Sri Lankan vil­lage Apegama are all ex­pected to be de­vel­oped with en­hanced in­fra­struc­ture fa­cil­i­ties for tourists in this pro­gramme,” Ba­munuarachchi said.

The pro­posed de­vel­op­ment plan was taken up at a meet­ing at the Udawalawa Tourist Re­sort with the par­tic­i­pa­tion of of­fi­cials of the Sabaraga­muwa Pro­vin­cial Tourism Min­istry, Sabaraga­muwa Univer­sity and agents of travel agen­cies both lo­cal and for­eign.
