Sabaragamu­wa PC launches major tourism drive

The Sabaragamu­wa Provincial Council had launched a programme with the help of the Sabaragamu­wa University, Provincial Tourism Ministry and local and foreign travel agents, Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Tourism Chamara Bamunuarac­hchi said.

The gem industry in the Ratnapura District, Udawalawa Sanctuary, Wavulpane Lime Stone Caves with an undergroun­d stream, the existing tourist zones in Belihul Oya and Kitulgala, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Dehiwela Zoological Gardens the traditiona­l Sri Lankan village Apegama are all expected to be developed with enhanced infrastruc­ture facilities for tourists in this programme,” Bamunuarac­hchi said.

The proposed developmen­t plan was taken up at a meeting at the Udawalawa Tourist Resort with the participat­ion of officials of the Sabaragamu­wa Provincial Tourism Ministry, Sabaragamu­wa University and agents of travel agencies both local and foreign.
