Lance Cor­po­ral ar­rested for ha­rass­ing WPC

A Lance Cor­po­ral of the army, who en­tered the Ke­galle Divi­sion Po­lice Sta­tion and at­tempted to take lib­er­ties with a Woman Po­lice Con­sta­ble (WPC) was taken into cus­tody by the Ke­galle Po­lice.

The 45-year-old sus­pect is a res­i­dent of Weer­am­bugedara in Ku­rune­gala and is at­tached to the Bata­landa Army Camp.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that he had vis­ited the Po­lice Sta­tion about a month ago and met the DIG Ke­galle Divi­sion in­tro­duc­ing him­self as an Army Ma­jor and of­ten fre­quented the sta­tion in civvies.

When ques­tioned about his mo­tive for com­ing to the po­lice sta­tion the sus­pect had ad­mit­ted to be­ing mar­ried and was liv­ing tem­po­rar­ily in Parakaduwa in Ehe­liyagoda and that his wife was back home in Ku­rune­gala.

Dur­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions it tran­spired that the WPC had been in love with the sus­pect for sev­eral years and had re­jected his ad­vances af­ter get­ting to know that he was mar­ried.

The sus­pect was pro­duced be­fore Ke­galle Mag­is­trate Chamara Wick­remesinghe and re­manded till De­cem­ber 10.

HQI Ke­galle Po­lice CI Athula Abeyratne and Sergeant 3022 Bandara of the Women and Chil­dren’s Bureau are con­duct­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
