Mag­is­te­rial in­quiry into Petroleum Corp shoot­ing post­poned for Dec. 12

The post mortem in­quiry into the death of a per­son dur­ing a shoot­ing in­ci­dent that took place at the Petroleum Cor­po­ra­tion premises in De­matagoda when the for­mer minister in charge of the sub­ject en­tered his min­is­te­rial of­fices af­ter Par­lia­ment was dis­solved, was post­poned for De­cem­ber 12.

The in­ci­dent took place on Oc­to­ber 28, when for­mer Petroleum Minister Ar­juna Ranatunge at­tempted to en­ter his of­fice and sup­port­ers of Prime Minister Mahinda Ra­japaksa tried to stop him from do­ing so.

In the melee that en­sued, Mr. Ranatunga’s of­fi­cial body­guard had shot into the crowd killing one per­son and in­jur­ing two oth­ers.

This was the first act of vi­o­lence that took place amid the po­lit­i­cal ten­sion that arose af­ter the Pres­i­dent dis­solved par­lia­ment and re­placed Ranil Wick­remesinghe with Mahinda Ra­japaksa as Prime Minister.
