NC PC launches probe into ac­tions of Chair­man

Ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing of­fi­cial ve­hi­cle

The North Cen­tral Pro­vin­cial Coun­cil has ini­ti­ated a for­mal in­ves­ti­ga­tion into an ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing the of­fi­cial ve­hi­cle of the East Nuwaragam­palatha Pradeshiya Sabha Chair­man.

Chief Sec­re­tary of the Pro­vin­cial Coun­cil H.M.P. Bandara said the dou­ble cab of the Pradeshiya Sabha had veered off the road and fallen into the Thariyaku­lam Tank in Ke­latthewa on April 16 this year.

He said a com­mit­tee of in­quiry headed by Se­nior Asst. Sec­re­tary to the coun­cil N.M.N.R.P. Navaratne was now record­ing state­ments of the in­di­vid­ual con­cerned in­clud­ing jour­nal­ists who re­ported the ac­ci­dent.

How­ever, dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions a driver of the Pradeshiya Sabha has ad­mit­ted that the ve­hi­cle was driven by him and the Anu­rad­ha­pura po­lice had charged him for fail­ure to pre­vent an ac­ci­dent.

Sev­eral mem­bers of the Pradeshiya Sabha said that ac­cord­ing to eye wit­nesses the ve­hi­cle had been driven by Chair­man S.P. Ku­maradasa at the time of the ac­ci­dent.

How­ever, dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions a driver of the Pradeshiya Sabha has ad­mit­ted that the ve­hi­cle was driven by him and the Anu­rad­ha­pura po­lice had charged him for fail­ure to pre­vent an ac­ci­dent.
