Wickremesi­nghe wins three gold medals at Pan Pacific diving

Former Sri Lanka national diving team captain Chanaka Wickremesi­nghe, won three individual gold medals at the Pan Pacific Masters Games 2018 held in Gold Coast last month, in the masters category.

The achievemen­t of Wickremesi­nghe, an Asian bronze medalist, is the first occasion where a single Sri Lankan has won the highest number of gold medals in such an event held at internatio­nal level.

Wickremesi­nghe represente­d Sri Lanka solo among 12 nations including Australia in the 30-35 year masters age group and won his gold medals in the one-metre spring board, three-metre spring board, and

Sri Lanka. Wickremesi­nghe collected 223.10 points in the one- meter, 252.75 points in the three-meter and 183.60 points in the spring board.

Wickremesi­nghe, a former Royalist and the Sri Lankan diving coach, had represente­d the country in both the World Diving Championsh­ip (1999 and 2002) held in the Czech Republic and Canada, respective­ly.

He is the head coach of the Royal College diving team at present and was a diving coach for the 21st Commonweal­th Games held in Gold Coast this year. The 2002 Royal Crown winner was an Asian Bronze Medallist at the Asian Diving Championsh­ip in Chinese Taipei (2000).
