Wick­remesinghe wins three gold medals at Pan Pa­cific div­ing

For­mer Sri Lanka na­tional div­ing team cap­tain Chanaka Wick­remesinghe, won three in­di­vid­ual gold medals at the Pan Pa­cific Masters Games 2018 held in Gold Coast last month, in the masters cat­e­gory.

The achieve­ment of Wick­remesinghe, an Asian bronze medal­ist, is the first oc­ca­sion where a sin­gle Sri Lankan has won the high­est num­ber of gold medals in such an event held at in­ter­na­tional level.

Wick­remesinghe rep­re­sented Sri Lanka solo among 12 nations in­clud­ing Aus­tralia in the 30-35 year masters age group and won his gold medals in the one-me­tre spring board, three-me­tre spring board, and

Sri Lanka. Wick­remesinghe col­lected 223.10 points in the one- meter, 252.75 points in the three-meter and 183.60 points in the spring board.

Wick­remesinghe, a for­mer Roy­al­ist and the Sri Lankan div­ing coach, had rep­re­sented the coun­try in both the World Div­ing Cham­pi­onship (1999 and 2002) held in the Czech Repub­lic and Canada, re­spec­tively.

He is the head coach of the Royal Col­lege div­ing team at present and was a div­ing coach for the 21st Com­mon­wealth Games held in Gold Coast this year. The 2002 Royal Crown win­ner was an Asian Bronze Medal­list at the Asian Div­ing Cham­pi­onship in Chi­nese Taipei (2000).
