ITAK MEMBER OF VALIKAMAMA­M SOUTH PS, T. PRAGAS UNSEATED

Ilanakai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) member of Valikamama­m South Pradeshiya Sabha, T. Pragas was unseated by the Elections Department last week after he withdrew his petition against his removal from the ITAK by the party secretary

Returning Officer of the Jaffna District T. Akilan said that the ITAK had earlier informed the Elections Department that Pragas had been expelled from the party as he had violated the party discipline.

It was alleged that the member had acted against the party regulation­s during the election of the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha and following the disciplina­ry action against him the ITAK had informed the Elections Department to replace him with another member of the party.

Accordingl­y, the Elections Department has unseated him.

Mr. Pragas had earlier filed a petition against his removal from the party and thereby from the Pradeshiya Sabha in the Jaffna Distrct Court praying a ban on his dismissal from the party and the Pradeshiya Sabha.

However, since he had later informed court that he was withdrawin­g his case, the case was dismissed and his unseating was upheld.

It was alleged that the member had acted against the party regulation­s during the election of the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha
