Wildlife Dept. vehicle shot at in Bundala Park

Two men had been arrested over shooting at a vehicle belonging to the Department of Wildlife Conservati­on on Saturday (8) night about 11 p.m, the Hambantota Police said.

However, DWC Officers not injured in the incident that had taken place near in the Bundala National Park in the vicinity of the Bundala Salterns. The vehicle, with two DWC Officers, was returning from the Hambantota Police Headquarte­rs after handing over three suspects, a safari Jeep and a carcass of a buffalo.

However, the DWC officers were able to nab the assailants following the motorcycle toppling in the attempt. The suspects were residents of Weligatta, Bundala, the Police said.

One of the men was in Army Uniform. Another set of uniform, torchlight, mobile phones and a knife were later recovered from the suspects by a team of Police officers who rushed to the scene from the Hambantota Police Head Quarters. Investigat­ions are conducted by Headquarte­r Inspector CI, R.M.G.S. Priyantha including his Officers.
