Two youths drown in Mawak Oya

Ingiriya Police said that

Two youths of the three who had gone for a bath in the Mawak Oya had been drowned yesterday (8), the Ingiriya Police said.

“The youths have been playing with a ball in the stream and one of them has gone to catch the ball, which went into the middle of the stream.

“He drowned and another youth has gone to help him had also drowned. These youths have gone there with their fiancées and a friend from the Padukka area,” a Police Spokesman said.

“The two youths have died on admission to the hospital,” he said.

“The victims were sent to the hospital by Suwaseriya Ambulance after taking them from the stream with the help of residents,” the officer said.

The deceased are identified as Madurapper­umage Dasitha Dilhara,(21) a resident of Thalangama, Malabe and Dulith Nethmal Ukwatte Liyanage (21) a resident of Samanala Mawatha, Thalahena, Malabe.

Inquirer into Sudden Deaths Udayaratne Liyanage attended the preliminar­y investigat­ion and ordered to send the two bodies to Horana Base Hospital for the autopsy.

Police investigat­ions were conducted by Police Sergeant Rupasinghe (41027), PC Gamage (70153) on the instructio­ns of Ingiriya Police OIC IP Naleen Dharshana.
