Reg­u­lar dis­cus­sions with Ma­hanayakes on safe­guard­ing Bud­dhism - PM

Prime Min­is­ter Ranil Wick­remesinghe said on Satur­day that the Gov­ern­ment had de­cided to have reg­u­lar di­a­logues with the Ma­hanayake Theras on the steps that had to be taken to safe­guard Bud­dhism.

Mr Wick­remesinghe said this while talk­ing to jour­nal­ists after a meet­ing he had with Ma­hanayake of Sri Kalayani Sa­m­a­gri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of Siyam Maha Nikaya, the Most Ven­er­a­ble It­ta­pana Dham­malankara Thera at Dharma Vi­jay­aloka Vi­hara in Ruk­mal­gama on Satur­day.

“I have in­formed the Ma­hanayake Thera that the Gov­ern­ment would en­gage in con­stant di­a­logue with the Ma­hanayake Theras on the steps that have to be taken to safe­guard Bud­dhism. I have also in­formed them that the Gov­ern­ment is also for unit­ing all re­li­gious groups,” he said.

“I also briefed him on the steps taken by the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Min­istry of Bud­dha Sasana and Min­istry of Cul­tural Af­fairs to safe­guard Bud­dhism. We re­ceived the Ma­hanayake Thera’s bless­ings for what we have done and what we in­tend to do for Bud­dhism in this coun­try,” he added.
