Velu Kumar wants President to intervene in land issues of estate workers
UNP Kandy District MP Velu Kumar yesterday urged President Maithripala Sirisena to intervene to resolve the land issue of estate workers.
Mr Velu Kumar told the Daily Mirror that President Sirisena should intervene in order get the decision made by the Cabinet to allocate seven perch plots of land to the estate workers, who were working for the three plantation companies run by the State. “Estate workers are a lot who played a considerable role in getting President Sirisena elected and therefore it is his duty to see that the landless estate workers get the promised plots of land,” he said.
The MP charged that those who ran the three State companies had followed a lethargic approach in implementing the Cabinet decisions.
