Radinka, Adheesha excel in Dubai Scrabble contest
Sri Lankan duo Radinka and Adheesha Dissanayake were among the prize winners at the recently concluded WESPA Youth Cup in Dubai. WESPA Youth cup is the world junior scrabble championship organized by the World English Language Scrabble Players Association.
Radinka Dissanayake of Bishop’s College was the only girl in the top ten and won a trophy for her efforts. It’s the first time since 2015 that a girl from any country has been in the top ten. The last player to do so was also a Sri Lankan - Thirandi de Silva of Ladies College.
Adheesha Dissanayake, who won the title of world under 10 champion last year won a gold medal for high game by scoring 664 points. Interestingly, both siblings were in the top ten at the Sri Lanka National Scrabble Championships held earlier in the year.
