GATEWAY - S. THOMAS’ COLLEGE INAUGURAL FOOTBALL ENCOUNTER ON JANUARY 26
Gateway College Colombo vs S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia Neville De Alwis Ralph Alles Challenge Trophy inaugural football encounter will take place on January 26 at the Gateway College grounds, Ratmalana.
There are two games scheduled to be played on that day. The first match is the under 14 at 3.30 pm.
The Big Match (under 20) will be at 6.30 pm under floodlights. Other than that there will be a friendly under 20 girls match between Gateway College Colombo and Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo at 4.45 pm.
The under 14 game will be for a duration of 40 minutes. The under 20 Big Match will be played for 70 minutes. The girls’ friendly game will be for 40 minutes.
Three awards will be presented after the game. They are Best Goal Scorer, Best Goal-keeper and Best Player.
In the Under 20 boys Big Match Rashane Wijewardena will lead Gateway College. D.S. Ebeneezer will lead the S. Thomas’ team.

will be skippered by Maleeka Amith while the Visakha team will be led by Senara Ariyaratne. Warden, Rev. Marc Billimoria and Chairman, Dr Harsha Alles will be Chief Guests at this occasion. This would be the first such encounter S. Thomas’ will be playing annually with a reputed International School.
Gateway College emerged champions at the recently concluded Under 20 Inter International Schools Football
Tournament under the guidance of Coach James Heath. S. Thomas’ triumphed over Trinity at their annual football encounter at the end of 2018 and is coached by Mahindapala and Sunil Shantha. Both teams are evenly matched with technically correct and skillful players who promise to provide spectators an interest, filled with healthy rivalry at this state of the art facility. This fun
filled event includes entertainment provided by the
Western Bands of both schools, food and drink stalls as well. All football enthusiasts, teachers, past and present pupils are warmly invited to grace this memora ble encounter.
Over the .years, both S. Thomas’ and Gateway have done much towards the development of sports in this country. In its long history, S. Thomas has produced several world class sportsmen and despite being a relatively young school
Gateway too has shaped a number of athletes, swimmers, basketball and football players who have represented Sri Lanka and brought pride to our motherland.
