Gate­way Col­lege Colombo vs S. Thomas’ Col­lege Mt. Lavinia Neville De Al­wis Ralph Alles Chal­lenge Tro­phy in­au­gu­ral foot­ball en­counter will take place on Jan­uary 26 at the Gate­way Col­lege grounds, Rat­malana.

There are two games sched­uled to be played on that day. The first match is the un­der 14 at 3.30 pm.

The Big Match (un­der 20) will be at 6.30 pm un­der flood­lights. Other than that there will be a friendly un­der 20 girls match be­tween Gate­way Col­lege Colombo and Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo at 4.45 pm.

The un­der 14 game will be for a du­ra­tion of 40 min­utes. The un­der 20 Big Match will be played for 70 min­utes. The girls’ friendly game will be for 40 min­utes.

Three awards will be pre­sented after the game. They are Best Goal Scorer, Best Goal-keeper and Best Player.

In the Un­der 20 boys Big Match Rashane Wi­je­w­ar­dena will lead Gate­way Col­lege. D.S. Ebe­neezer will lead the S. Thomas’ team.

The girls un­der 20 friendly game

will be skip­pered by Maleeka Amith while the Visakha team will be led by Se­nara Ari­yaratne. War­den, Rev. Marc Bil­limo­ria and Chair­man, Dr Har­sha Alles will be Chief Guests at this oc­ca­sion. This would be the first such en­counter S. Thomas’ will be play­ing an­nu­ally with a re­puted In­ter­na­tional School.

Tour­na­ment un­der the guid­ance of Coach James Heath. S. Thomas’ tri­umphed over Trin­ity at their an­nual foot­ball en­counter at the end of 2018 and is coached by Mahin­da­pala and Su­nil Shantha. Both teams are evenly matched with tech­ni­cally cor­rect and skill­ful play­ers who prom­ise to pro­vide spec­ta­tors an in­ter­est, filled with healthy ri­valry at this state of the art fa­cil­ity. This fun

filled event in­cludes en­ter­tain­ment pro­vided by the

Western Bands of both schools, food and drink stalls as well. All foot­ball en­thu­si­asts, teach­ers, past and present pupils are warmly in­vited to grace this mem­ora ble en­counter.

Over the .years, both S. Thomas’ and Gate­way have done much to­wards the de­vel­op­ment of sports in this coun­try. In its long his­tory, S. Thomas has pro­duced sev­eral world class sports­men and de­spite be­ing a rel­a­tively young school

Gate­way too has shaped a num­ber of ath­letes, swim­mers, bas­ket­ball and foot­ball play­ers who have rep­re­sented Sri Lanka and brought pride to our mother­land.

A press con­fer­ence took place re­cently re­gard­ing this en­counter at the Foot­babll House chaired by Rev, Marc Bil­limo­ria, war­den S. thomas’ Col­lege, Mt. Lavinia and Dr. har­sha Alle, Chair­man, Gate­way Group where the above de­tails were re­vealed.
