SUNETH MALINGA’S DECADE IN MOVIES

Suneth Maliga Lokuhewa, the passionate film enthusiast who made his film debut with a short film titled ‘Mathibrama­ya’ in 2009, has slowly but steadily made a mark as a film director in his career now spanning ten years. Having successful­ly completing a diploma on psychology in England after completing his secondary education here, Suneth Malinga returned to Sri Lanka and wrote a series of enlighteni­ng books on psychology touching upon various aspects. His debut movie direction ‘Sinhawalok­anaya’ proved a promising opening for him in the film world. It was Lanka’s first film to be based on cricket, despite being the cricket world champs 14 years prior to that. Four years later, he screened his second movie ‘Spandana’ and kept on directing movies until his last ‘Nidahase Piya – DS’. He also directed tele dramas like Ayemath Adaren, Millewa Walawwa and Chanchala Rekha. He is also making his debut as a lyricist in the yet to be released film ‘Surangana Lowin Ewilla’. The award-winning director is now the Managing Director of film production company ‘September Studios’.
