Woman knocked down by speeding motor cyclist
The motorcycle that had been travelling at a high speed, had hit the woman who had been thrown about four metres away and due to this impact she had suffered serious injuries
A sixty-seven-yearold woman who was crossing the road around 7a.m. On Sunday, on the Anuradhapura-mihintale main road, was hit by a speeding motor cyclist and on admission to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital had succumbed to the injuries she had sustained.
The rider and pillion rider of the motor cycle who were also injured, had been warded at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
The deceased woman had been identified as U.M. Somawathie the wife of the owner of a plant nursery in Kannatiya on the Anuradhapura- Mihintale Main road.
Sources revealed that the motorcycle that had been travelling at a high speed, had hit the woman who had been thrown about four metres away and due to this impact she had suffered serious injuries. Police believe that the cause of this accident was speeding and negligent riding by the motor cyclist.
Mihintale police conducting further investigations said that the rider of the motor cycle who is now undergoing treatment at the hospital would be taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital.
Further investigations are continuing under the direction of the Traffic OIC of the Mihintale Police Inspector Ruwan Dharmatilleke.
