Nagitha’s 11-wicket haul spins Trinity to win

Sixteen-year-old left-arm spinner Nagitha Wijesunder­a playing his first match with the first-xi team was rewarded with a match bag of 11/76 (5/29 and 6/47) to help Trinity College register a ten-wicket win over St. Thomas College Matara in their Under 19 Division One encounter played at the Uyanwatta Stadium.

Invited to bat first Trinity declared their first essay at 237/9 with skipper Pubudu Bandara and Ashan Lokukariya posting half tons. Sachira Rashmika was rewarded with a five-wicket haul while Sineth Sithara grabbed two wickets.

Needing only three runs to win the Trinitians did it in style with a hit over the ropes in the very first ball to win by 10 wickets

Nagitha (5/29) and Kavishka Senadeera (4/45) restricted the home team’s first essay to 123. Sachira Rashmika topped the score card with 43.

On being asked to follow on the Thomians fell victim to Nagitha’s spin and were all out for 116. Mihisal Amoda and Gishanthik­a Jayaweera posted twenty-plus scores. Needing only three runs to win the Trinitians did it in style with a hit over the ropes in the very first ball to win by 10 wickets. Kavishka Senadeera and Shane Gunathilak­e took two wickets each.
