Wedding Story of RAISA & KAVINDA

-

THE ROMANCE Q YOUR INITIAL MEET. HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

This was a match made in heaven.

Our families knew each other even before we were born. We actually met when we were babies, long before meeting as adults.

Fast forward to 2016 when I was studying in Melbourne, Australia, for my Masters. I was living in university accommodation studying for the finals, when our mutual friend, Jayani, took me on a road trip to escape the exam stress. I found out that

Kavinda is Jayani’s best friend and had decided to play Cupid as she was convinced that Kavinda and I made a good pair. We had encountered our first milestone- becoming Facebook friends!

Q WHO MADE THE FIRST MOVE? HOW?

Kavinda made the first move! The initial meet up was low key and Kavinda joined my friend and I for a movie at Melbourne Central. He fit right in and I felt comfortable around him, like I had known him all my life!

We continued to get to know each other and finally Kavinda nervously mustered up the courage to ask me out. The feelings were mutual and I eventually said yes on Christmas Day, 2016.

Q WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE?

At first, I thought Kavinda was a very calm and quiet person, but I was very wrong. I have come to realise that I am more calm and quiet than he.

Q IN WHAT WAYS ARE YOU MOST ALIKE?

Strangely, Kavinda and I are complete opposites! He likes action Hollywood movies and I like romantic Bollywood movies. He can finish a phone call in less than a minute whilst I would take at least an hour to finish the same conversation and even make a second call!

Q WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE DATE? WHY?

It would have to be the time we spent eight hours in the university laundry, enjoying conversational bliss over chips and soft drink!

Q THREE THINGS YOU LOVE AND HATE ABOUT YOUR PARTNER.

Kavinda has a personality that is caring, loving, understanding and patient, along with a sense of humour that is similar to mine.

Whilst I love him, every relationship has its annoyances and mine would be Kavinda’s addiction to his phone. He has a habit of continuously scrolling through, giving the impression that he is not paying attention when that’s actually not the case.

THE PROPOSAL Q HOW DID THE PROPOSAL HAPPEN?

Well, since both of us love photography, we had decided to go the

Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens to take some shots. However, when I learned that my friend and amazing photographer,

Dylan, would be in Melbourne, the plan changed a little. It became a couple shoot, and after a bit of convincing, Kavinda agreed to be part of it all, however, he had other agendas! In the Lavender Garden, he popped the question, out of nowhere, in his signature-casual-yet-slightly-nervous style. Of course I said, YES!

Q IF THE PROPOSAL WAS A SURPRISE, ON A SCALE OF 10 HOW WELL DID IT GO?

It was such a surprise and so cute that I would give it 100 out of 10. No doubt.

THE WEDDING Q MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR WEDDING?

I think it was undoubtedly walking towards the poruwa with my Amma and Thaththa on either side of me.

Q IF YOU COULD DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY USING ONE WORD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Surreal- We still can’t believe it!

Q WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST FUN DETAIL OF YOUR WEDDING TO PLAN?

You won’t believe this, but we decided to do a first dance at the very last minute, when we were changing outfits for the going away! It was very spur of the moment and we decided on the song whilst coming down in the lift!

Q WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS MR. AND MRS.?

There is no more texting good mornings when you can actually do it face to face, no more his place or mine, instead we have built a strong foundation and a home together- a place to call our own! We love the idea of designing our own space with style and flair that is unique to both our personalities.

Q WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT DETAIL OF YOUR WEDDING TO AGREE UPON?

Definitely the seating plan! With over 600 guests, organising was quite challenging.

The location of each table is important where you can put your younger guests at tables close to the band, and older guests a little further away so they are not overwhelmed by the volume.
