Nights and mornings to be cold

Fairly cold nights and mornings are expected over most parts of the island during the next few days and there is a possibilit­y of ground frost at some places in the Nuwaraeliy­a district during the early hours of the morning, the Department of Meteorolog­y said yesterday.

It said afternoons were going to be hotter and that the highest temperatur­e of 33.6 degrees Celsius was reported from Hambantota and Ratmalana while the temperatur­e in Kurunegala was 30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the seas off the coast from Mannar to Dodanduwa via Puttalam and Colombo and the seas off the coast from Matara to Potuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times with wind speeds of up to 60 kmph at times.
