An English answer paper of 2013 GCE O/L examination of a student is to be reexamined by an independent committee soon in compliance to a court order, the Commissioner General of Examination Sanath Pujitha said.

This order has been issued by the Supreme Court on Wednesday(16) to the Examination Department after considering a case filed by a student who appeared for the GCE O/L examination held in 2013 from Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo stating that the result received for her English paper is not acceptable.

This student had secured eight “A” passes for other subjects and a “B” pass for English paper at the 2013 examination.

She has filed this case after she received the same result on re-scrutinizing.

The student’s mother M.D. Chandrani Wijegunawardena said she was very excellent in English language and refused to accept the result of the examination for English.

After re-scrutinizing the result for English subject, the Commissioner General of Examinations has told them that the student had

written her essay out of the given topic in the question paper, the mother said.

She also said when she and the father of the student were called to the examination department they had the opportunity to see the daughters answer paper and saw that marks had not been given for the essay but she had secured 71 marks for the other answers. “A” pass is given for marks above 72.

They had filed the case since their daughter was mentally disturbed by the incident.

This is first time the examination results have been challenged in courts and the court has given a ruling on the results.
