Group of treasure hunters nabbed

A group of men, who were allegedly searching for buried treasure in a domestic compound in the Nedungamuwa area, were arrested by the Weliweriya Police yesterday.

The police, acting on a tip-off, raided the house and found that the men were excavating the outside compound of a house using various utensils.

Two siblings and two other men were amongst those arrested. They were all from the same neighbourhood. They had reportedly dug a tunnel 30 feet deep in their attempts to find treasure.

The police seized crowbars, mammoties, woven baskets and plastic pails used to remove earth as well as sledge hammers and electric torches found at the scene.
