BEAR WITH THE POLICE DURING REHEARSALS: DIG

The City Traffic has arranged a special traffic plan on account of National Day celebratio­ns on February 4 and traffic rehearsals will be held in parts of Colombo upto February 3.

Ajith Rohana, DIG Traffic Administra­tion and Road Safety requested motorists to bear with the Traffic Police during rehearsals as it is done for their own safety and convenienc­e.

Accordingl­y, for all vehicles entering Colombo from Galle Road and travelling to Fort will be diverted temporaril­y from Kollupitiy­a junction to ceramic / Lotus Road junction from 6.30 am until the March-past rehearsals are concluded.

Vehicles entering Colombo on Galle Road via Mt. Lavinia, Dehiwela, and Wellawatte must turn right from Kollupitiy­a junction and travel to fort through Pittala junction, James Peiris Mawatha, Slave Island, Justice Akbar Mawatha, Malay Street, Sir Chittampal­am A Gardiner Mawatha via Regal Round About.

Galle Road will be kept closed from Kollupitiy­a junction onwards. However, Hotel guests and residents from Kollupitiy­a Junction to Galle Face round about are permitted to travel to their residences and hotels during this period. Vehicles travelling to Shangri La hotel must use Marcan Makar Mawatha and the road where the Sri Lanka Army head quarters was located earlier.

All vehicles leaving the city via Galle Road from Fort must take the same route as they entered the city and enter Galle Road from Liberty round about and via R.A.DE Mel Mawatha.

On National Day, February 4 Galle Road will be kept closed from Kollupitiy­a junction to Galle Face roundabout from 5.00 am.

Buses and heavy vehicles entering the city on Galle Road must turn left to W.A.DE Silva Mawatha from Pamankada junction travel through Maya round about, Havelock – Thurstan Road, Glass House junction, Library round about, Flower road, Pittala junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Town Hall, Soyza round about, Deans Road, Seimens Junction, Maradana bridge, Technical College and Olcott Mawatha.

Light vehicles entering Fort must turn right from Kollupitiy­a junction and drive through Liberty roundabout, Pittala junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Lipton Roundabout, Ibbanwala junction, Darley Road, Gamini roundabout, Maradana bridge, Technical college and Olcott Mawatha..

Entering the closed roads will be prohibited even for those who reside along those roads from 7.15 am to 8.30 am and 11.30 am to 12.15 pm.

Vehicles leaving the city must use Olcott Mawatha, Technical junction Roundabout, Sri Sangharaja mawatha and roundabout, Panchikawa­tta road, Maradana bridge junction, and turn right from Siemens Road junction and enter Deans road, Suduwella, Soyza roundabout, Sri Kannnangar­a Mawatha, Nelum Pokuna roundabout, Reid Mawatha, Thunmulla junction and turn right and enter R.A.DE Mel Mawatha and enter Galle Road from Wellawatte.
