Welcome their first child
A couple with a 36-year age gap have welcomed their first child together - even though he already has three children who are all older than her.
Carly Potter, 25,from Suffolk gave birth to a son over the Christmas holidays - three years after she and husband Billy, 61, first hit the headlines as one of the UK’S biggest age-gap couples.
Carly shared photos of her bump throughout the pregnancy including one with a sign reading ‘dreams do come true’.
The baby boy, whose name hasn’t yet been revealed publicly, is Carly’s first child, but mechanic Billy is already a father-of-three and a grandfather.
A source confirmed their joy, stating: ‘Carly and Billy are over the moon about the baby.
‘Billy’s been through it all before before but he knew with Carly being so young she deserved a chance to fulfil her dream of being a mother too. They are very happy.’
Her mother Linda Northcott, who accepted her daughter’s unusual relationship from the start, boasted earlier this month:
‘I now have three beautiful little grandsons, so lucky.’
Carly and Billy married in August 2015, nine months after he proposed at their favourite restaurant.
The pair met when Carly was just 18 after her car broke down and Billy offered to fix it for her.
But romance only started to smoulder six months later when Carly was working behind the bar at his local, The Warwick.
Billy, who had been with his previous partner for 27 years, began to take notice.
Speaking about their relationship previously, Carly said: ‘I think he then found me attractive.at the end of my shifts I would offer to give Billy a lift home a couple of times and that’s how that started.’
The couple were criticised for their relationship, with some accusing Carly of pursuing Billy for his money.
She said: ‘We tried to hide it to start with because of the age gap.
He’s got three children and we didn’t really want it coming out if it wasn’t going to be serious.
‘But people did find out and they had a lot to say about it. Most of it was negative to be honest.
‘People were saying it wouldn’t ever last, that I was after his money. Just hurtful things.they weren’t prepared to give it a chance at all.’
The couple had a traditional church wedding at St Mary’s Parish Church in Woodbridge back in August 2015 - even though Bill had previously said he never wanted to get married.
Speaking of the proposal, she said: ‘It was a shock as he said he would never get married,
but obviously he wanted to
‘The 36-year age gap has not affected anything really. At the start he said he would never get married because he wanted to warn me.
‘I accepted it, but I knew deep down one day I wanted my dream wedding and in the end it just got more serious and he wanted it to. He loves me a lot.’
