Eco Team debuts Junior Explorer’s Club

-

Inspiring children’s sense of wonder for the great outdoors and the environment, Eco Team launched its new Junior Explorer’s Club for kids recently.

As Sri Lanka’s pioneering and largest diversified, eco adventure entity, Eco Team’s latest initiative continues its mission towards sustainability and wildlife conservation aimed at teaching kids at a very young age the importance of protecting the natural environment.

Sri Lanka as an island is blessed with great natural beauty, a treasure trove of sightseeing and adventuring opportunities. The decision to create the Junior Explorer’s Club was mainly due to the enthusiasm displayed, especially from children when staying as guests in Mahoora & Big Game tented safari camps.

“We are very excited to launch our new Junior Explorer Club. We aim to provide our younger guests unique and invaluable experiences by encouraging them to learn about our wonderful island’s natural surroundings contributing to instilling a love for nature and the environment. We’re certain that many fond memories and new friendships will be made at the Club and look forward to inviting children to enjoy our new offering,” said Marketing and Quality Assurance Head Savanthi Jayawickrema.

Establishing the Junior Explorers Club was also an ideal avenue to showcase wildlife and the natural environment, getting children involved in activities, encouraging and educating them to grow up as responsible adults towards the planet.

The interactive activities promoted through the club provide a unique platform for kids to share their ideas, their efforts, even the smallest, despite living across the globe. Thus the club is not just confined only to Sri Lankans ensuring that everyone in the family will take home memories of a lifetime.

Following the soft launch of the Junior Explorer’s Club held in September 2018, Eco Team organised a novel first event during December 2018.Heralded as an immense success amongst all participants, the activitybased programme was organised at the Diyasaru Wetland Park, the lush land dedicated to conserve biodiversity in the heart of capital and recognised as a hidden treasure amidst Colombo’s concrete city.

Extremely enthusiastic and energetic young explorers participated in the event and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in the park.

The event commenced with an interactive nature lesson conducted by University of Sri Jayewardenepura Senior Lecturer Dr. Priyan Perera. The children were conducted on a nature walk and took their own time looking at the flora and fauna and jotting down interesting facts.

As it was the Christmas season, the children also engaged in creating Christmas ornaments, with vivid and imaginative decorations created. A highlight of the programme was the children receiving Christmas tree shaped gingerbread cookies for all their endeavours. The day concluded with a group picture and memories to treasure until the next Junior Explorer’s Club event.
