Large scale trishaw larceny busted
The Dambulla Police said they had uncovered with the help of CCTV camera footages, a racket of stealing trishaws operated in a large scale islandwide.
Four suspects of a group of organized stealing trishaw had been arrested by the Police at Habarakada, Athurugiriya with a trishaw, when the investigations were commenced by the HQI of Dambulla Police Sampath Wickramaratne on a complaint received about the fleeing with a trishaw parked in the Dambulla Town on January 18.
The Police have commenced investigations searching the trishaw nearly 13 days using CCTV cameras installed in the towns from the date of the incident.

Police teams have been sent to Athurugiriya, Balagolla and Manikhinna area of Kandy in search of the person, who could have stolen the trishaw. The Police also identified four men in the gang.
“The person who was keeping the trishaw with him is a resident of Athurugiriya and the chief suspect is a resident of Galkiriyagama, Anuradhapura and second and third suspects are residents of Manikhinna and Kundasale in Kandy,” Dambulla HQI Sampath Wickramaratne said. He said that two men had evaded the area in connection with this incident.
“It was revealed in the investigations that the trishaw is sold to the ricketier in the Athurugiriya area for Rupees hundred thousand though the actual price is higher than this. These racketeers operate at various places and steal parked trishaws and take them to a house in Kundasale and change the number plates, colour and were sent to Athurugiriya racketeer.
“A resident of Athurupaya, Dambulla had lodged a complaint to the Police. The four suspects had been produced before Dambulla Magistrate Kosala Bandara Illangasinhe, who them to be ordered to be remanded until March 18,” he said.
Further investigations are conducted by Dambulla HQI IP Sampath Wickramaratne, OIC of Crime Branch IP S.S. Herath and IPS W.M.K. Sanjaya Wanninayaka, A.A. Dharmapala, A.T. Bandara including a police team on the instructions of ASP Dambulla H.M.J.S.B. Heenkenda.
