Narcotics are being smuggled by the politicians in their vehicles for their self benefits as the politician’ vehicles are never subjected to checking and this method was used in the past to smuggle narcotics into our areas

The government that brought an end to the war sowed narcotics in the name of development and the narcotics were mostly smuggled to the North and East only through the politicians, State Minister of Education Vijayakala Maheswaran said.

She made the above comment participating as chief guest at the Inter-house sports competition held at Mannar – Adampan Maha Vidyalayam on Saturday.

She said narcotics were sowed in the North as similar to paddy sown to harvest and the politicians were instrumental in bringing about the menace.

“Narcotics are being smuggled by the politicians in their vehicles for their self benefits as the politician’ vehicles are never subjected to checking and when it was mentioned that the vehicle belonged to a Parliamentarian or a Minister they were not checked at all. It was unknown what was smuggled in the vehicle and this method was used in the past to smuggle narcotics into our areas and we have discovered that it is taking place in many places now,” State Minister of Education Vijayakala Maheswaran said.

She urged that those acts should be totally stopped. “Problems such as child abuse and sexual assaults are on the rise due to narcotics,” she further said.
