Oppo as SL’S most popular smartphone brand in 2018

The year passed was a fantastic year for almost all the brands in the mobile phone industry.

There were numerous flagship devices where the features were not expected by most consumers. In Sri Lanka, so many devices released from many renowned brands. Yet, there was no formal competitio­n being conducted regarding the ‘Most Popular Smartphone Brand in Sri Lanka’.

A new poll was conducted by Android Wedakarayo - a Sri Lankan tech/mobile website - which was hosted on their official website ‘www.androidwed­akarayo.com’ and Oppo emerged as the winner of the title ‘The Most Popular Smartphone Brand of the Year 2018 - In Sri Lanka’.

It was held on the website with the polling system from pin-poll in which the public was allowed to vote for their choice of the brand - where all the smartphone brands available in Sri Lanka was added to the poll.

Informatio­n about the poll was communicat­ed in social media which resulted in most of the young tech enthusiast­s voting for their choice of brand. Multiple votes by a single person were disabled whilst human image verificati­on was enabled to verify the authentici­ty of the voters. The poll was active for one week and ended on December 25, 2018, and subsequent­ly the results were shared to the public.

“Oppo is undoubtedl­y the go to brand amongst Sri Lanka’s young demographi­c. The brand topped our list in the polls for the most popular smartphone brand of the year 2018. We believe that the brand has been effectivel­y made an emotional connection with Sri Lanka’s youth,” commented Gevindu Aloka from the Android Wedakarayo team.

Android Wedakarayo is a bunch of tech enthusiast­s, who believein sharing ideas and spreading awareness among the tech world. Android Wedakarayo writes, discusses, shares their views on the developmen­t of the tech world and even hold concern programmes both online and offline in Sri Lanka.

Founded in June 2013 by Rajitha Dananjaya, Android Wedakarayo was initially a Facebook Group. With the main motive being ‘To contribute towards a tech concerned and digitally updated Sri Lanka’, the target audience comprises of mostly Sri Lankans whose native language is ‘Sinhala’.
