CELEBRATNG THE POET BHARATHIYA­R

Srimathi Mohana Harendran establishe­d the Sathyalaya­m School of Music and Dance in 2011. Mohana graduated from Kalakshetr­a with a First Class Post Graduate Diploma in Bhartanaty­am. She had the privilege of receiving guidance directly from Srimathi Rukmini Devi Arundale in Bhartanaty­am and Sangitha Kalanidhi Srimathi D K Pattammal in Carnatic Music. At present, Mohana teaches dance and music to children aged 4 to 18 years old.

At an early age, the significan­ce of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati in the struggle for Indian independen­ce was brought to her attention by her grandfathe­r Professor C Suntharali­ngam.

She is therefore honoured to present this dance drama, Mazhalaiyu­m Bharathiyu­m, based on the poetry of Bharathiya­r. Mazhalaiyu­m Bharathiyu­m -A visually appealing Bhartanaty­am dance drama which makes use of music, dance and drama to convey the meaning of the poetry of Bharathiya­r. This production presented by children aged 6 to 16 years will, through the beautifull­y choreograp­hed items and lively music, convey the poetic verse of Bharathiya­r to an audience of all ages.

Guest Artiste – Architect C Anjalendra­n was the first male to have his arangetram in Sri Lanka in 1966, at the age of 15 years, under the tutelage of Sivakumari Rasiah for Bharathana­tyam and Sukendu Dutt for Kathak, Kathakali and Manipuri.

Anjalendra­n will present KAALAI THOOKI by Marimuthu Pillai, sung by his uncle Sangeetha Siromani S Sathyaling­am, dedicated to his ancestors who have departed.
