- BY PREETHI JAYAWARDENA AND RASUN DAHANAYAKA

Deputy Chairman of the Kamburupitiya Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) Ananda Weerasinghe said none of the Kamburupitiya Pradeshiya Sabharuling or opposition- were amongst those who were arrested at the party hosted by Makandure Madush in Dubai.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Kamburupitiya PS auditorium he said the reports that a member of Kamburupitiya PS has been arrested in Dubai while in the company of Drug kingpin Makandure Madush was completely false.

The Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha Sanjeewa Priyanath, who was the only PS member out of the country at present, is receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore, he said.

While the press conference was going on, in a bid to put all doubts about the whereabouts of the PS Chairman to bed, the Deputy Chairman had got the Chairman on line and those present were able to hear and witness him speaking from his hospital bed at the Mount Elisabeth Hospital in Singapore, explaining that all the talk about one of their members being present when police raided the 6-Star hotel in Dubai was a fabrication and that except for him all the other 16 PS members are now in Sri Lanka.

There are 10 SLPP, 4 UNP and one member from the JVP and an independent member amongst the 16 PS members.

When journalists inquired about any former members being amongst those who were arrested in Dubai, Deputy Chairman replied he was unable to give the whereabouts of former PS members.

PS member Premawansa Warnakula said as many from the government side attempting to distort the facts this news item may have been a red herring concocted to divert attention away from the true facts.
