Lorry veers off road onto railway track, disrupts services

Police said that the transport services in the up-country areas was disrupted on 9th due to a lorry with a load of wire that had veered off the road and travelled along the railway track, a distance about 50 metres before it stopped at Oththekade area between Haputale and Bandarawel­a.

Police said that the railway track was damaged due to this accident and the Badulla bound train from Colombo was delayed for about seven hours and was terminated at Haputale. The Colombo bound train from Badulla was terminated at Bandarawel­a.

There were similar accidents in this nature which had occurred in this place previously, the Police said.

Driver of the lorry was arrested and further investigat­ions were conducted by the Police on the Instructio­ns of Bandarawel­a Police O ICC hand ana Jayathilak­a.
