Dengue cases, deaths drop drasticall­y

Some 5,200 dengue cases have been reported so far this year with no deaths recorded while 51, 591 cases of dengue were reported last year with 63 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry yesterday claimed that the number of reported dengue cases and dengue related deaths had dropped sharply in 2018 in comparison to 2017.

But the Ministry sounded an alarm that people must be extra vigilant on possible mosquito breeding places with the onset of monsoonal rains expected in the days to come and assist to further control this deadly disease from spreading in the country. the country with wards specially allocated for dengue patients. The dengue prevention programmes and dengue prevention weeks conducted round the year had contribute­d immensely to achieve this result. The island wide fumigation, and the Environmen­t Police applied the law to the letter against violators of Environmen­t law and detected and filed charges against thousands of household that neglected dengue prevention instructio­ns.
