Old Boys win Daniel Edirisinghe Trophy
The old boys of S. Thomas’ defeated the present boys by one goal to nil to win the Daniel Edirisinghe Challenge Hockey Trophy in their annual fixture at Mount Lavinia. At half time neither side had crossed the others line.
In the 10th minute of the second half, the deadlock was broken when centre forward B. Athira worked the ball to right extreme Ashwin Ellepola to sound the boards and give the young old boys victory and the trophy.
Ranul Rambukpotha of the young old boys adjudged the beat player, while Vihan De Mel was the best goal keeper.
In the over 40 versus under 16 fixture, a solitary goal by centre half Tivanka Wijeratne off a pass from right inside gave the over 40 toss a one nil win.
In the first game the day, the under 14 team was held to a nil all draw by Pre School.
