Education Min. to expedite the issuance of e-tablets among A/L students
The cabinet paper seeking approval to distribute e-tablets among G.C.E. A/L students and teachers would be submitted to the cabinet today, Education Minister Akila
Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday.
Minister Kariyawasam said the G.C.E. A/L students must not bother for print edition of their text books as arrangements will be made to access to the texts online using their e-tablet.
“I have instructed the Educational Publication Department, Examination Department and the Education Department to take necessary action in this regard. I hope even private tuition can be obtained using the tablet,” Minister Kariyawasam stressed.
The e-tablet distributed free of charge to G.C.E. A/L students and teachers will have a guarantee period of one year and after the lapse of one year the Education Ministry will make arrangements to renew guarantee period of the tablet free of charge.
Minister Kariyawasam obtained the first cabinet approval in February, 2018 to the e-tablet project for G.C.E. A/L students and teachers but President Maithripala Sirisena suspended the implementation of it citing the cost involved to the project at Rs. 4 billion.
Minister Kariyawasam expects to launch this project immediately after obtaining cabinet approval today and distribute tablets among students who sit the G.C.E. A/L examination this year.
