More Pakistan scholarshi­ps to SL students

Numerous scholarshi­ps will be provided to Sri Lankan students in various fields under the Pakistan-sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperatio­n Programme, Pakistan High Commission­er Major General Retd. Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat has said.

According to Urdu Point, the High Commission­er said this was discussed with Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem when he met him in Colombo.

During the meeting, bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest and cooperatio­n had come under discussion.

The High Commission­er also discussed the prospect of establishi­ng the Taxila Gandhara Civilizati­on Study Centre at the Colombo University with the minister.

Another proposal Dr. Hashmat broached with the minister was for the High Commission of Pakistan to organize an internatio­nal seminar in collaborat­ion with the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka in March this year, with the view to highlight the Gandhara heritage and cultural links between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Minister Hakeem lauded the efforts of the High Commission and the Government of Pakistan for providing enormous opportunit­ies to Sri Lankan youth for capacity building.
