SRI IANKA NEEDS SCIENTIFIC GOVERNANCE TO PROSPER: CHAMPIKA

- BY SHEAIN FERNANDOPULLE

The country needs scientific governance in place of popular governance for it to move forward in a better way, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said. He expressed these views speaking to the media after a programme in Kalutara Janapiyasa.

It was a terrible mistake that the previous government made when they decided to construct a new airport in Mattala instead of developing the Bandaranaike International Airport

“It is this popular governance that ruined the country and that’s why the country is stagnated. We should take the initiative to alter this system,” the Minister said.

He said the power should not be given on the basis of popularity of the person but considering the talent and professionalism. “We have to first identify capital priorities. It means that how we should utilize money in an appropriate way to gain full productivity. Besides, it is important to identify the areas that we should use money for,” the Minister added.

Meanwhile, he said it was a terrible mistake that the previous government made when they decided to construct a new airport in Mattala instead of developing the Bandaranaike International Airport. The investment that the previous government made on constructing the Mattala Airport should have been made on developing the Bandaranaike Airport. If it had happened, the Bandaranaike Airport would have become more profit making company. This would have been also affected to boost foreign investment.
