The Awa Group in Jaffna that had been famous for their sword attacks has resorted to bomb attacks as well, sending a threatening message to the law enforcing authorities in the area.

A petrol bomb alleged to have been thrown by the AWA group at a house in Kokuwil area yesterday noon had caused severe damage to a van and motorcycles parked within the house, in formed Kopai Police.

Meanwhile journalist Nadarajah Kugaraj attached to a private TV channel in Jaffna, who had visited the site to report about the incident had alleged that he was assaulted by a police official and sought treatment at the Jaffna hospital.

Sources revealed that six individuals wearing masks and travelling on motorcycles had entered the two storied house yesterday around 1.30 p.m.and hurled the petrol bombs. In the upper floor of this house a person leasing out vehicles had stayed with his wife and child while on the ground floor a female student of the Jaffna University had been residing with her mother.

The suspects after entering the house had first thrown the petrol bombs at the van that has been parked in front of the house and then had set fire to the two motorcycles and fled the scene. No injuries had been caused to the inmates of the house. The Jaffna Municipal Council fire fighting unit and the neighbours had failed in their attempt to douse the fire and save the vehicles.
