SLIA’S Architect 2019 exhibition to kick off this week
The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) last week announced the institutes latest members’ work and trade exhibition ‘Architect 2019’ (A’19), to be held for the 37th consecutive year, at the BMICH.
“This year our theme is ‘Emergence: Entrepreneurial Architect’. Entrepreneurship is a word that we architects are not used to associating with. But what we felt is that, like in other parts of the world, we must have our involvement at the very inception of a project to combat irreversible wrong decisions that are made by developers prior to consulting with us,” said SLIA President Archt. D.H. Wijewardene, commenting on the theme for the national conference that is set to be held on February
21, 2019, with Colombo Municipal Council
Mayor Rosy Senanayake attending as chief guest.
The institute has invited foreign architects,
Archt. Nicholas Ho from
Hong Kong and Archt. Masaharu Rokushika from Japan to deliver the keynote speeches at the conference, and more experts from China, Spain and also locally renowned architects to share their expertise knowledge and experience in the practice of architecture.
Meanwhile, it was also announced that the inauguration ceremony for the annual sessions of 2019 would be held on February 20, at 3:15 p.m., with Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs Minister Sajith Premadasa as chief guest and Arcasia President Archt. Rita Soh as guest of honour.
Members of SLIA, members of other architectural institutions in the region, foreign guests, dignitaries and students from the architecture field are expected to be present at the ceremony.
The exhibition is set to open to the public from February 21 to 24, 2019, 10:00 a.m. to 10:00p.m., presenting over 300 trade stalls and 150 architect display panels including digital panels displaying architects’ work.
The exhibition will comprise of dynamic and digital demonstrations on architectural projects and panels with architectural models. A special live interface forum will also be arranged at the ‘Centre-hall B’, where chartered architects can meet the public and view their project presentations. (HS)
