Pyramid Wilmer creates huge upset

Pyramid Wilmer, relatively new to MCA Cricket, created a huge upset when they eliminated the unbeaten & probably the tournament favorites, HNB Finance by 16 runs, in the Semi Finals, of the 08th Prestige Automobile (Pvt) Ltd., powered, “BMW/ Hyundai” Trophy, MCA “C” division 50 over League Tournament 2019, at the Army Grounds, Dombagoda.

In the top half Semi-final played at the MCA Grounds on the same day, Asia Asset Finance romped to an easy 77 runs win over Commercial Bank “A”.

The match winners for Pyramid Wilmer were, Mishene Silva, who stroked a gutsy 106 in 95 balls, inclusive of 06 sixes & 10 fours and Asher Warnakulasuriya, who demolished the HNB Finances’ strong batting line up with a bag of 05 wkts for 59 runs in 10 overs; earlier on in the league stage Pyramid Wilmer lost to HNB Finance by 07 wickets.

The match winners for Asia Asset Finance was the other centurion, Sachindra Hiraj (101 in 98 balls inclusive of 05 sixes & 05 fours), who held the batting against some hostile bowling by the bankers, P. Sachintha (1041-3), R. Ekanayake ( 10- 52 – 3) & S. Premaratne (8-1-41-2) which restricted them to 219 in 45.4 overs.

Commercial Bank “A” chasing a moderate target of 220 in 50 overs (RPO 4.4) just not cope up with the varied bowling attack of Diluk Hettiarachchi (7.3 - 17 – 3), D. Jayalath ( 10- 1- 19 – 2), Nimesh Perera (5 -20-2) & C. Rajapaksa (821-2), as they went down tamely by 77 runs (142 in 38.3 overs)

The Final between, Asia Asset Finance & Pyramid Wilmer will take place this Saturday, 16th March at the MCA grounds, commencing 10.00 am. Chief Scores:
