INIMITABLE B. S. PERERA

The 95th birth anniversar­y of Sri Lanka’s well-known comedy star and film director B.S. Perera, falls on March 31. B.S. as he was lovingly known was born on March 31, 1924 and started his career as a trolley bus driver. He later entered films with a memorable role in ‘Dheewarayo. From thereon, he played a wide range of roles in hundreds of films and holds the record of acting in the most number of Sinhala movies. Among the noteworthy he films he acted in were Dheewarayo, Sathutu Kandulu, Sudo Sudu, Yatagiya Dawasa, Sengawena Sewanella, Senasuma Kothenada, Vasanthi, Senasili Suwaya, Rena Giraw, Okkoma Hari, Ohoma Hondada, Hitha Honda Minihek and several others. B. S. Perera passed away on June 23, 1982 in Chilaw after a brief illness.
