ANANDA AND VISAKHA CLAIM NATIONAL SWIMMING TITLES
Ananda College, Colombo and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo came on top at the National and Junior Swimming Championships which concluded at the Isipathana College Swimming Pool in Colombo yesterday. Ananda secured a total of 221.50 points and were closely followed by Killer Whale Aquatic Club in second place with 203 points.
They were followed by St. Joseph’s College (134), St. Peter’s College (121) and Nalanda College (73) who took the third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
In the Girls’ category Visakha Vidyalaya were well ahead securing 298.50 points while second placed Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy were able to secure only 157.50 points.
Sirimavo Bandaranayake BV (151), Lyceum, Wattala (107) and Musaues College (76) followed in third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
Meanwhile, Ananda also came on top in the Under-15 age group as they chalked up
149 points followed by Lyceum, Nugegoda with 127 points, St. Joseph’s (117), St. Peter’s (81) and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa (56).
Sirimavo Bandaranayake BV came on top in the Girls’ Under-15 category with 167 points with Lyceum, Wattala in second place with 129 points followed by Visakha Vidyalaya (109), St. Bridget’s Convent (64) and Gateway College, Dehiwala (50).
Four new records were established on the final day.
Dasindu Geeshath Perera of Ananda established a new meet record with a timing of 1.12.59 seconds in the Under-15 Boys’ 100m butterfly stroke while eclipsing the previous record set by Kyle Abeysinghe in 2015.
In addition, Oneli Yahampath of Lyceum, Nugegoda set a new record in the Under-15 Girls’ 200m butterfly stroke with a time of 2.40.01s to break the previous record held by Nabashie Perera.
Sandev Senaratne of Ananda set a new record in the 200m butterfly stroke with a timing of 2.07.40s while setting aside the previous record held by Mathew Abeysinghe.
Neesha Nilaweera of Stafford International School set a new record in the Under-15 Girls’ freestyle event with a timing of 28.27s while eclipsing the previous record held by Bhakthi Karunasena in 2017.
