Words of ADVICE for MEGHAN...

What all new mothers should know

-

This was indeed a joyous week for the Duke and

Duchess of Sussex of the United Kingdom with the arrival of their very own little Duke. Being members of the royal family and prominent public individuals, this pregnancy was not a private one and the whole world waited in bated anticipation for the new addition.

A new baby is always wondrous news. The first of the family changing the lives of the parents and melding them into their newly acquired roles, as mother and father. The Duchess Markle would have been duly educated on the new journey before her, from doctors to therapists to childminders and maybe be even baby whisperers, she would have investigated and determined the most successful ways to face a new role. The reality is that motherhood is so very intrinsic. The only relationship that matter is yourself and your baby and how one moulds the other.

Motherhood is both an intense and transformative experience in a woman’s life, and along with any intense situation it also holds major highs and crushing lows. The day your baby enters the world is a day filled with unmeasurable joy. You are personally changed as a human being forever. Surprised by the intensity of love felt for this new human, you walk through that rite of passage in which you acquire the cloak of invincibility that all mothers have, your child is your number one priority. Blessed to be able to experience this love, it will surprise you as a new mother the insecurities that will suddenly make an appearance. The doubts, the worries, the fears and the failings which the usual confident self will be

introduced to, this is all part and parcel of being a mother. Sometimes with the business of the whole process you forget to enjoy the little moments, for as a mother you are always waiting for things to be over. When will the breast feeding end, to the potty training, the endless tantrums and so forth. With always looking ahead you sometimes forget to look in front of you and to really wallow in the incredible experience that you are in now.

It is often said that Parenthood is a child’s guidebook. When that momentous day dawns, that day that changes our life statuses forever, the day you become parents, you are never really prepared. Of course you make silent vows, your children will be raised right and you will teach them about goodness, kindness, fairness and all that is right with the world. But, the student here is not the child, it is in fact the parent. Yes we raise children, but we also create parents in the process. Our children are our constant teachers, they are our faithful co-pilots in this Parental journey, and to make this journey a smooth one, we must also listen and learn from them. “To those whom much has been given, much is expected”, and as a new mother you have been given the greatest given there is in existence, here are some helpful suggestions to make this an easy journey for you.
