SIU PROBE FINDS POLICE HAD ERRED

The investigat­ion being carried out by the Police Special Investigat­ion Unit (SIU) against Wellampiti­ya Police Officers, had been able to reveal certain facts during the probe, police said.

The SIU had begun the investigat­ion and they had discovered several facts regarding the incident

The SIU launched a probe to determine whether nine individual­s who were workers of the copper factory at Wellampiti­ya were released on bail due to an error by Wellampiti­ya Police Officers.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the SIU had begun the investigat­ion and they had discovered several facts regarding the incident and said that stern action would be taken against the officers responsibl­e for the matter. Nine employees attached to the copper factory in Wellampiti­ya, which was owned by Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaq Ahamed, the suicide bomber at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, were arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21.

They were remanded till May 6 and when the suspects were produced in court on this day, they were granted bail.
