Navy organises drug prevention programme in Mahaoya

Another drug-prevention programme organized by the Sri Lanka Navy was successfully held in the Educational Zone of Mahaoya in Ampara on Wednesday.

It was carried out under the national programme, ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ mooted by the President. The Navy has also organized a number of drug abuse prevention programmes countrywide.

Several such programmes are in progress, covering the Divisional Secretariats of the Ampara district. Accordingly, a range of drug abuse prevention programmes as well as awareness programmes for teachers have been conducted in the Mahaoya Educational Zone with the participation of a large number of schoolchildren and teachers.

These awareness programmes are conducted by personnel consisting of naval officers and counsellors and are assisted by government and non-governmental organizations (NGOS) in the area.
