SUSPECT ARRESTED WITH RS.8 MN IN HIS POSSESSION

WELLAMPITI­YA POLICE OFFICERS UNDER PROBE KATTANKUDY POLICE ARREST ANOTHER SUSPECT

Asuspect identified as Buhari Mohammed Rafik was arrested by the Slave Island Police in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said yesterday.

HE ALSO HAD GOLD WEIGHING 778 GRAMS IN HIS POSSESSION

The arrested tea trader was believed to be a close associate of previously arrested Dematagoda Mahawila Gardens Spice trader Mohamed Yoosuf Ibrahim.

He said cash worth more than Rs.8 million and gold weighing 778 grams were found in his possession during the arrest while the Kattandudy Police had arrested another

suspect said to be closely connected to the suicide bomber Mohamed

Zahran Hashim. SP Gunasekara said the suspect had carried out financial transactio­ns with Zahran and found to have participat­ed in several training sessions conducted by the terrorist group led by him.

He said the Wellampiti­ya Police officers were being investigat­ed as to how the nine suspects arrested at the Wellampiti­ya copper factory came to be released on bail.

Meanwhile, SP Gunasekara said police unearthed a cache of explosives at the Kattankudy Beach. They believe the explosives might have been buried by the suicide bombers who had blasted themselves at Sainthamar­uthu.
